How to Find Random Stuff in New York

Victor Borge Hall

A friend called to say hello and reply to an invitation to lunch at an unusual restaurant.

"You're always doing really interesting things," she said. "How do you find all this stuff?"

Newsletters, I told her.

Today's path:

Browse ArtsJournal.

Discover a YouTube video of Danish comedian and pianist Victor Borge playing Franz Lizst's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 with Rowlf on "The Muppet Show."

Remember how my dad used to call me to the TV to watch Victor Borge do some of his comedy routines.

Go to YouTube to watch a different, older verson of the same gag:

Recall that Victor Borge was Danish.

Search Victor Borge and New York on Google.

Discover Victor Borge Hall at Scandinavia House, which has a free art exhibition from now 'til Aug. 17. Put that on my calendar as something to do. Maybe.

Scandinavia House sounds like a buffet, which makes me think of Swedish meatballs, but instead of hopping to IKEA, for which one would have to go to New Jersey, I find Smorgas Chef and a little place called Fika (meaning "coffee break" in Swedish).

Ta-da! Dinner choices, one of which has free wine, the other of which has great coffee.
